He was born in Bandung from a father who works as an air force officer and was educated in India in 1960 and in Texas, USA in 1973. His mother, Like Suharti, is a mother of six children, Prof Dr. Rina Indiastuti, Indri Rustantina, Hari Mukadi, Dr. Erni Mariana, Lusy Artati and Beny Absoro.
